Picking A Fight

If you think that the competition is terrible, SAY SO. When you do, you will find that others who agree with you will rally to your side. Being Anti-Orthésiste is a great way to differentiate yourself and attract followers.

Our training as podiatrists is exemplary. WE KNOW THE FOOT BEST. Les orthésistes have 40 hours training at best in the foot: WE HAVE MORE THAN 4000. They go to CEGEP: WE GO TO UNIVERSITY. They are part of nebulous associations: WE ARE PART OF A PROFESSIONAL ORDER THAT PROTECTS THE PUBLIC BY LAW.

So forget that we are facing big marketing machines that sell orthotics, shoes and a multitude of odds and ends. There are no replacements for a good podiatric biomechanical exam and no replacement for a complete podiatric orthotic prescription. Choose to use orthotic laboratories that cater to podiatrists ONLY. These 3 principles are OURS. We have earned them through the years. They are important and must be embraced.

WE TREAT PEOPLE. We take care of their feet. Podiatrists are the best qualified to do so by far. Be proud of it and never miss an opportunity to share this pride with your patients and the people around you. AND IF YOU CAN, yell it from the highest building. Do not be afraid to pick a fight......

There is very little heel contact in stance phase..he is using the pose method http://www.posetech.com/

When we consider orthotics, should we correct a toe runner differently than a heel-toe runner? Is the neutral position even a consideration?

reebok easy tone

Reebok claims that their new shoes increase muscle activity when you walk with them; calf and gluts. They claim a 10 to 25 % change. They claim that this tones your muscle, creates more definition and burns more calories........

I have my doubts.

Firstly, human locomotion has a complex series of muscle contraction and relaxation phases that are perfectly timed. A muscle working when it is not programmed to can lead to injury. Furthermore, biomechanical analysis is used on patients who are in pain or injured to determine exactly which muscle is firing out of sequence or for too long!!!!

Secondly, the muscles mentioned would become more toned only by going through the entire range of motion which is not the case in locomotion.

You decide....
